Business Insights Analyst - Mayo Clinic

Position Description

The Business Insights Analyst position is focused on creating new insights and optimizing foodservice operations at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, Scottsdale, AZ, and Jacksonville, FL. In this role, you will consolidate data from numerous data sources, conduct analyses on factors that impact daily food service operations, and perform a wide range of other data-driven activities. You will work on site alongside operators, culinarians, dieticians, marketing, and finance team members to help them make data-driven adjustments in their operations, including performance reporting and economic valuations, market research, onsite surveys, focus groups, and strategic deployment of E15’s proprietary analytics products.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Turning consumer insights into actionable findings that move the business forward
  • Conducting market research (using both syndicated data and primary research methods) to determine consumer preferences and identify improvement and growth opportunities 
  • Deploying multiple primary research methodologies to discover consumer needs and preferences 
  • Mining data from a variety of third-party research tools 
  • Crafting compelling stories from complex data to address key client business issues 
  • Synthesizing consumer insights with internal data such as point of sale, labor, and inventory data 
  • Developing written reports and PowerPoint presentations to convey findings and recommendations to clients, operators, business analysts, and executive audiences 
  • Socializing research findings across different departments - creative, marketing, operations, culinary - and pivoting to the needs of each 
  • Managing relationships with key clients and stakeholders and understanding their overall strategies and business objectives 
  • Developing specific knowledge about venues, including physical configuration, technology and operational processes 
  • Identifying opportunities to change existing product offering or distribution
  • Reporting periodically on operational and financial metrics, and creating an economic valuation of E15’s bottom-line impact 
  • Managing or directly completing ad hoc analytics projects as appropriate 
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in business analytics, computer science, statistics, market research, economics, or a related field.
  • 1+ year of experience in quantitative, qualitative research and/or statistical/analytical techniques.
  • Contract food service operations knowledge/experience
  • Proficiency in 1 or more of the following:
    • SQL
    • R or Python
    • Visualization software (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)
    • Syndicated data (e.g., Nielsen, IRI)
    • Consumer research methods (e.g., focus groups, surveys)
  • The ability to communicate complex ideas – both verbally and visually – in a clear, straightforward way to all levels of an organization (and esp. to non-technical audiences) 
  • Specific interest (or prior experience) in client service 
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment, in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures 
  • Proven intellectual and problem solving skills that allow you to really get to the heart of the critical business issues 
  • General knowledge of the healthcare industry including clinical processes and hospital reimbursements is preferred 
  • Understanding of hospital data sources including HCAHPS, Truven and CMS is preferred 
  • Natural curiosity, a can-do attitude, and comfort with ambiguity
