Lead Application Developer

We are looking for a hands-on, collaborative Lead App Developer to join our Application Development team. You like to build beautiful, user facing UIs, and back-end APIs for consumers to ingest. You enjoy working together with a team to tackle and solution challenges with data and code.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to design and build front-end applications and work on the entire stack, from front-end development to back-end infrastructure. The web apps you build will deliver solutions to our Food and Beverage and Sports industry clients, as well as support our internal teams, like our data science and analytics verticals. This role will work with stakeholders to gather requirements and manage the backlog for the tools the team builds. You will report to our Director of Data Engineering and help bring best practices to our web development offering, while building and leading a team of Full Stack Developers.

Our web app stack focuses heavily on AWS services and JavaScript: Node.js, Express, React.

Our Data Engineering team is Python and AWS focused team, using a tech stack of: Python, Spark, Docker, Airflow, and a range of AWS services like SQS, SNS, S3, Redshift, Glue.

Core Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, build, and deploy responsive web apps using a modern stack consisting of JavaScript and AWS services
  • Support the build and deployment of our artificial intelligence and business intelligence tools

  • Wireframe UIs and document journey maps

  • Drive the road map for the products we build

  • Collaborate with our reporting, analytics, data science, and data engineering teams to understand data sources and business requirements

  • Work within a collaborative team, adhering to Agile best practices, documentation, and knowledge sharing

  • Mentor and help lead a team of web developers

  • Monitor application performance and document feature changes

  • Adhere to best practices for web development

Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years of programming experience with JavaScript

  • 4+ years of experience building Front-end web applications (JavaScript, Bootstrap, HTML + CSS, experience with React, Angular and Vue preferred)

  • 4+ years of experience building Back-end (non-relational data stores like DynamoDB and MongoDB, Node.js, Express)

  • 2+ years of experience leading and mentoring developers

  • Previous experience collecting requirements and wire framing

  • Solid understanding of JSON schemas

  • Familiarity with micro services and event driven architecture

  • Familiarity building with the AWS platform: S3, Lamdba, EC2, DynamoDB, API Gateway, etc.

  • Strong understanding of analytics and data sciences

  • Background in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related field

  • Excited and willing to learn new things

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong familiarity with Python
  • Experience with CI/CD methodologies, Docker, Airflow and other open source technologies
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment - we do Agile using sprints, planning, retro, etc.
