Director, Data Engineering

We are looking for an experienced Director of Data Engineering to lead our Data Engineering team. When you get out of bed in the morning, you look forward to building solutions, you love working with data, and you enjoy leading and working with teams.  In this role, you'll have the opportunity to make design decisions and build cloud infrastructure and pipelines that will deliver data solutions to our Food and Beverage and Sports industry clients. 

We’re a Python and AWS focused team, using a tech stack of: Python, Spark, Docker, Airflow, and a range of AWS services like SQS, SNS, S3, Redshift, Glue.

Team Leadership

  • Effectively build and manage a portfolio of products and projects and deliver multiple releases on schedule

  • Lead a team of Data Engineers to build solutions for data and technology requests

  • Work closely with internal and external leadership and engineering teams to prioritize initiatives and deliver value

  • Drive the standard for engineering best practices

  • Deliver iterative and agile business results through partnerships and prioritization with the business

  • Mentors, coaches and educates team members in standard processes, policies, and procedures related to architecture and infrastructure

Data Engineering Strategy and Execution

  • Drive architectural designs and decisions based on business requirements and priorities

  • Develop and maintain best in class architecture and services

  • Defines and manages how data will be stored, consumed, integrated and managed across the enterprise by different business applications and IT systems and users

  • Documents and manages data standards, data flows, and conceptual flows

  • Works with business and IT teams to develop and maintain mappings/rules between business applications and business data and interfaces

  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to ensure that technology decisions align with the overall Architecture Framework/Roadmap

  • Keeps up-to-date on current and future technology trends and best practices

  • Uses technical knowledge and expertise to develop, innovate technical solutions

  • Provides consistent updates as to progress of initiatives to stakeholders

  • Participate in various organizational programs and initiatives such as, supporting sales and retention efforts, performing ad hoc analysis, serving on committees, or creating prototypes of new data products


  • 5 – 7 years in an ETL, cloud architecture, or Data Engineering role

  • 3+ years leading and mentoring engineers or developers

  • 3+ years’ experience with AWS services: S3, Redshift, Glue, EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS

  • Hands on experience implementing DevOps and CI/CD technologies and methodologies

  • Experience implementing with Airflow, Docker, and other open source technologies 

  • Experience managing, developing, and implementing data pipelines and other infrastructure services

  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment, running standup, managing backlogs, etc. 

  • Experience in application development, ETL development, report development and/or other data warehouse projects

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, or related field

  • Highly proficient with Python, PySpark, and SQL

  • Demonstrated understanding of data engineering technologies and their use to guide the organization in understanding and adopting them

  • Highly self-motivated and directed with an attention to detail

  • Ability to develop and own stakeholder relationships

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a consultative role and communicate complex ideas to non-technical audiences

  • Ability to develop and own stakeholder relationships (at all levels)

  • Persuasive and professional communication skills (presentations, documents, emails)

  • Comfortable and competent in front of executives and clients


  • Big 4 Consulting experience working with senior level clients (directors, C-level) 

  • Food and/or Retail knowledge/experience a plus

  • Master's degree
